      BROWN CRACKS

Cracks in teeth collect materials and stain.  Restoration requires removal of stain with fine burs.  Surrounding enamel is beveled for transition of color from tooth to composite.  Bevels create gradual thinning of composite that shows through tooth color resulting in smooth gradual color transition. Bevels are critical when exact tooth color is difficult to match.

A ½ round bur or a fissure bur is used to remove stain.  Diamond burs create bevels around the crack.  Enamel is etched, bonding agent and composite are placed and cured.  Composite is finished with sand paper disks, rubber wheels or berlew wheels and polishing cups and paste.
