Composite materials come in limited shades.  There is no brown composite to match tooth color to restore the class 5 lesion on the right central incisor.  Composite is mixed with brown tint to achieve color match.  Tint is mixed and the resulting composite placed on the tooth and cured to judge color match.  If color is too light or dark, more tint or more composite is added.  Color match is check after light curing because composite changes color when cured.

A brown craze line is placed to match an existing craze line.  Composite is placed in the distal half of the class 5 defect and cured.  Brown tint is placed on an instrument and thinned by passing the edge over gauze or a towel.  Brown tint is applied to the vertical wall, excess removed and cured.  A final layer of composite fills the mesial half, is light cured and finished.
