Covering a dark yellow defect
A dark yellow defect is restored with two layers of composite so yellow does not show through. A single layer of translucent composite would look yellow as tooth structure shows through. An opaque or dentin composite layer can be placed to block out color and then a translucent or enamel composite layer. An alternative method that maximizes a translucent appears is presented.
An initial layer of light colored, translucent composite is placed. For example, if a translucent or enamel B1 composite is placed, dark yellow from tooth structure shows through as lighter yellow and simulates natural colored dentin. An enamel layer is then placed, shaped and polished with polishing cups.
