CLASS 4   WITH HYPOCALCIFICATION

A class 4 defect is created by trauma.  Caries is present and exposed by the fracture.  Composite is placed into a three wall defect created by caries removal.  A lingual wall of an opaque composite is placed and cured to block out darkness from the back of the mouth.  A first translucent layer covering the lingual wall is placed and cured.  White tint to replicate a hypocalcification is placed with a small instrument, excess removed and cured.  A final thin layer of translucent composite is placed over the entire restoration surface including the white hypocalcification and enamel bevels and cured.

Diamond burs produce a fine textured surface that is polished with fine sandpaper disks and polishing paste.  The sandpaper disks is held at an angle so the edge will follow contours and not remove composite.
