RESTORATION OF PAPILLAE LOSS

Papillae loss produces a black triangular defect. The space appears black because darkness from the back of the mouth can be seen. It is difficult and unpredictable to reestablish a papillae, however, the space can be closed with composite.
Crestal bone height is measured. Composite is bonded to both teeth closing the diastema and creating a contact five millimeters or less from the crestal bone height. Gingiva heals and creates an new papillae usually at a lower height than the original one.
