    SURFACE RESTORATION 

Developmental defects on these central incisors create unaesthetic teeth.  Facial contours and the incisal edge are restored  with addition of composite.  No tooth reduction is required, however, diamond burs prepare the surface for improved bond strength.  Enamel is etched, bonding resin placed in a thin layer and composite placed, shaped and cured.

Shaping at time of placement and before curing minimizes trauma of finishing.  Necessary shaping and contouring is accomplished with burs and sandpaper disks.  Surrounding teeth have little texture so surface texturing is minimal and should be done with finishing burs, sandpaper disks and rubber wheels.  Final polishing is done with fine sandpaper disks with water or polishing paste and rubber cups with appropriate polishing paste.  Final polish should not recontour or change surface shape.  It should only create smooth surfaces.
