The above amalgam replacement illustrates a standard Class II posterior composite restoration. The first step in this technique is to remove the old amalgam from the tooth. Then place a radiopaque cavity liner (Cosmedent’s Renamel De-Mark) on the tooth so that you can easily identify your composite on an X-Ray. Next add your microhybrid or nanofill dental composite to make the proximal wall. Continue to place composite in 2-2 ½ mm increments until completion of your restoration. Each incremental layer should be light cured 20-40 seconds. Make sure to polymerize your final composite layer for 60 seconds. Then finish and polish with Cosmedent's FlexiDisc system followed by Enamelize polishing paste for an invisible restoration.
